Tokenization
When speaking of payments, the concept of tokenization identifies a service for which the card information of the payer is replaced by tokens or numerical or alphanumerical codes. This solution enables the merchant to save on its servers and manage payments by forwarding the data to the payment gateway, which only once received by the payment platform provider will be “translated” into the underlying card information. Tokenization makes it unnecessary for merchants to have particularly onerous certifications and, at the same time, offers them increased collection opportunities.
